Building a labyrinth

In early 2022, I received a “divine task” – build Labyrinths out of stone, as personal and community projects. Finding an accessible, walkable labyrinth near me had become difficult. (After all, I’m named after Ariadne, priestess-goddess of Knossos.) The first Labyrinth would be on the Fancy Gap mountain land, using local found stones and a classical “seed pattern” design. In April, during the trip to Fancy Gap and Southwest Virginia, I gathered the first rocks to form the spiral labyrinth, placing brighter milky white quartz at the center.

In 2024, I’ve added more stones and small metal elements to the labyrinth, setting the existing foundation stones further into the ground. The Algiz rune and cross, soldered copper pieces colored with flame patina, stand at the labyrinth to honor my grandfather Leslie, a lightning rod salesman who bought the land and and had this spot cleared when I was young.

JEWELRY
While I started making jewelry around 2015, I had stopped during the pandemic; at the start of 2023, I returned to this beloved craft and made my first pendulum-necklace in time for the gem and mineral show in Tucson. Soon after the show, I opened my StarriAriStones ETSY shop and began selling my pieces at a few stores in Virginia and North Carolina. Now, I make necklaces, pendulums, bracelets, and earrings using stone, metal, bone, shell, wood and glass, and other objects too, like suncatchers and copper “keycharms.” Seasonally, I set up my table at fairs, artisan markets, and pop-ups, mostly in Virginia and North Carolina (check for updates).
